GeForce Now Gets AV1 and DLSS Encoding
What does this mean
With the latest beta update, GeForce Now gets some pretty impressive new features namely AV1 encoding and DLSS encoding on the RTX 40 series of cards. Additionally the update offers one-click automatic GPU tuning for all GeForce GPUs.
AV1 Encoding
AV1 encoding offers better quality video at lower bitrates rendering gameplay more efficient on the server side. This means NVIDIA can stream games at higher quality or at the same quality with a lower bandwidth hit. In testing, AV1 offered a 20% improvement in quality (with the same bitrate) or a 30% reduction in required bandwidth for the same quality.
DLSS 3 Encoding
DLSS 3 encoding is available to RTX 40 series cards and leverages the new Frame Generation capabilities of the card to create additional frames to reduce latency while also increasing image quality. This eliminates the need to use the CPU for video encoding and instead leverages the powerful neural network of the GPU. In testing, DLSS 3 Encoding delivered a 2.8x framerate improvement while also improving latency.
Automatic GPU Tuning
GeForce Now is also getting one-click automatic GPU tuning for all video cards from NVIDIA to provide optimal settings for the best possible experience.
Conclusion
These updates are great news for GeForce now subscribers. The latest update will help enhance gaming experiences by offering higher quality video, reduced latency, and faster encoding times.
