The Boston Celtics took an early lead in the NBA Finals on Thursday night, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1. Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 29 points, while Jaylen Brown added 24 and Marcus Smart chipped in with 18.
The Mavericks were led by Luka Dončić, who finished with 20 points, but he was not able to receive enough assistance from his teammates. Spencer Dinwiddie added 17 points for Dallas, while Dorian Finney-Smith contributed 14.
The Celtics took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Mavericks 32-18. Tatum was particularly impressive in the period, scoring 11 points and assisting on several other baskets.
The Mavericks will now look to even the series when they host the Celtics in Game 2 on Sunday night.
